So this Fall, tentatively, looks like it will be shaping up like this:
LING 330- Phonetics. I've been waiting to take this course for a long time, so if it fills up I'll be pretty mad. The precurser to this course was one of my absolute favourite courses I've taken, cause we learned the international phonetic alphabet, and that's tonnes of fun. "A survey of methods of speech sound description and transcriptionA survey of methods of speech sound description and transcription." Ooooh my nerdy brain is tingling.
LING 360- Linguistics/Language Teaching. "Theoretical and practical aspects of second language learning." Sounds interesting, but one of the main reasons I want to take it is so I can get to know the teacher, who is in charge of the TESL program and head of the linguistics department. First, I'll get him to really like me. Then I'll DEMAND that Japanese 300 be brought about!!!!
ARCH 372- Material Culture Analysis. You get to make stone tools!!! I've been looking forward to taking this course for some time, and it's being taught by my favourite teacher (he looks like the guy from the discovery channel, wears a scarf, and uses his boomerang instead of a laser pointer). It sounds like a tough course load but oh well.... "Analysis and interpretation of archaeological material culture. This lecture and laboratory course combines the practical problems of recognition and interpretation of archaeological specimens, typology, seriation, and statistical procedures with the basic principles of archaeological theory."
FREN 122- Yay I'm taking French again! This is the third level, and I finished the equivalent of the second 3 years ago... alors j'espere j'ai n'oubli pas tout mon francais... woah I have some catching up to do...
PHIL 110- Logic and Reasoning. Moannnnnnnn.... I really don't want to take this course, but if I want that liberal arts certificate, and I only need one course to complete it, this looks like the least painful course. The actual material is fine. It's the philosophy STUDENTS that I dont want to put up with. Beligerant self obsessed know-it-alls who think they have the answer to all of life's problems if the lowly peasantry would just listen to all their rants. Ughhhh... can I just read the text and show up for the exam? "The aim of this course is to familiarize students with fundamental techniques of correct reasoning. Special attention is given to the methods of logic in particular, and to their role in the discovery of truth not only within science and philosophy but within all forms of rational enquiry. Open to all students." If I have to drop a course cause I'm overwhelmed... it will be this one. It even has a tutorial portion so we can 'discuss' things. Eeeeew...
So there it is. The 5 courses that will ultimately bring my demise... or at least a lowered GPA....
